Second Annual Big Horn Basin Folk Festival Aug. 6-7

Basic CMYKMark your calendar for the second annual Big Horn Basin Folk Festival, August 6-7, in Hot Springs State Park, Thermopolis.

The festival is sponsored by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation, Wyoming Arts Council, Hot Springs Education Endowment  and Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund. Thermopolis Chamber of Commerce, Hot Springs State Park and Thermopolis Kiwanis are also providing support services.

The festival is designed to identify and showcase folk artists in the region, and this year we are expecting even more than last year.

There will be a juried art show, artisan demonstrators, food court, Kiwanis craft show, and the traditional Gift of the Waters Pageant. Plus there’s hands-on activities for kids and adults.

Special for the first time in the state — a Storytelling Circle with both professional and amateur storytellers. Included are members of a new guild of storytellers in the northern area of the state — Catherine Ringler, Powell; Michelle King, Basin; and Jennisen Lucas, Cody. There will also be plenty of local storytellers, including Dick Hall, cowboy storyteller and poet.

This year’s food court will include locally famous cinnamon rolls made by Hot Springs Senior Citizens Center bakery staff.

Last year’s fiber demonstrators included weaving, spinning, horsehair hitching, knitting, felting and quilting. This year, we are adding rug braiding and rug hooking demonstrators.

This is just to whet your appetite — there’s plenty more to be announced shortly — you don’t want to miss it. Entertainment varies both days — plus this year will include a special late evening performance you won’t want to miss!
